General terms

Scrum: Where forwards from both teams bind together using their bulk, strength and ability to work together to get the ball.

 

Line - Out: Where the forwards contest for possession of the ball after the ball has gone out of play over the sideline.The lineout needs tall players to leap for the ball and strong players to assist the leapers.

 

 

Maul: When the ball carrier is held but not brought to the ground and other players from both teams try to gain possession of the ball and pitch.

Ruck: When the ball carrier has been tackled to the ground and players from both teams try to gain possession of the ball by attempting to drive the opposition backwards and off the ball.
